![]() ![]() So many games make beautiful worlds and then slap on all these icons, or, even worse, make it all based on minimap navigation, so that you spend more time looking at the bottom corner of your screen than looking around you. No minimap, no icons, nothing - just the detailed gameworld to explore and navigate. Supporting the above - most of the time, there's no HUD on screen at all. The little details extend to animation and things like Lara shielding her face when she's near heat, or touching walls when she gets close to them, or rinsing her hair out when she emerges from water. Some of the environments are breathtaking in how they look, and also in their imaginative vision. Standing in the dark in a dusty tomb with cobwebs blowing and old bones glowing in the light of the flare you're holding is still fun, even as the game comes to an end. I have noticed some asset reuse, but mostly around every corner there's some new detail to appreciate. This game has lots of that you can just walk around and take in the environments, which for the most part feel very hand-crafted and therefore interesting and not repetitive. I really really like walking around and exploring detailed, interesting environments, from the little details to the big scenes. Here's why I think this game worked for me: ![]() I played and finished the first one when it first came out. I'm extremely hard to please when it comes to games these days, and move away from most of them after the first hours or two. I'm about to finish Rise of the Tomb Raider, and I've enjoyed it so much I figured I'd make a post here recommending it. ![]()
